    1.  Recycle   Here is a wonderful opportunity to talk about recycling and re-purposing AND using paper from your scrap box.   Students can make cards, books, bookmarks, and creative art projects.  See what ideas your students have about recycling and re-purposing right in the classroom.
2.  Make an Earth Day Snack that is Healthy and fun to make.

MrsQuimbyReads, Earth Day, healthy snacksGather these healthy food items: celery, cherry tomatoes, kiwi, grapes, apple slices, peanut butter, oranges, etc.  Talk about the different bugs and insects that live in the earth.  How do they help the earth? How do they help us?  What size are they? What colors? What work do they do? After your class discussion, start to make your little creatures with the food items for snack.  More questions: Is this a healthy snack? Why do you think so? Why should we eat healthy?

The Old Tree by Ruth Brown | Reading Aloud to Young Readers

Teaching Resources, the old tree, read aloud, books for children
The Old Tree is perfect for reading aloud to PreK-1.  This book teaches young readers the importance of working together to save our environment.  Ruth Brown presents Pigeon Post delivering the mail to The Old Tree asking "Why is there a big X on the tree?"  No one seems to know until Captain Crow peers into his telescope and learns what is about to happen... PANDEMONIUM!  first .... and then the animals and birds work together to save their beautiful home.
It's the most beautiful tree I have seen this year in any picture book.  The characters are likable and lovable... even Mr. Woodpecker who makes a racket remodeling his home ... making several renovations and new additions!  Professor Owl seems to get a headache and not only because of noisy Mr. Woodpecker but also because of some other charming characters in this story.  If you love birds

Write About Earth Day

Let's Read and Write about the Earth!
Take this opportunity to teach facts about the earth and the reasons why it is very important to live with nature in a caring way.  Learn about our surroundings and our environment.
I Love the Earth
Teach students about recycling. Ask key questions about why people should recycle.  This can lead to talking about something students can do "daily" to help preserve the Earth and it’s resources.  Why should we love the earth?  How do we show that we love the earth?  What happens when people do not care for the earth?
Teach students about reusing.  How can we reuse practical items and goods?
Teach students about reducing.  What does reduce mean?  Can we use less of something?  What? How? Why?
