Groundhog Day for Primary Learners will improve reading comprehension.  Students will practice understanding nonfiction and fiction texts about Groundhog Day, improving skills like sequencing, the main idea, and making predictions.  Students will also develop writing skills when writing about Groundhog Day as they will organize thoughts, use descriptive language and express ideas clearly.

Groundhog Day for Primary Learners will introduce Traditions & Folklore.  Students may learn about cultural traditions, legends, and how people observe seasonal changes.

Encourage scientific thinking when you lead discussions about shadows, hibernation and weather patterns. These discussions easily connect to science concepts like seasons, animal behavior, and the sun's role in casting shadows.   You will readily see a boost in engagement and fun when completing these Groundhog Day activities, with predictions about spring or more winter.  Your students will become interested in the content while learning important literacy skills.
